Not even the chilling cold that
greeted us damped the spirits of those gathered on Huguenot Street to
meet Allison Findlay and her mother Margie at the 2009 DBFA reunion. Those
who arrived on Thursday (Oct 15) were greeted with a light snow fall.
Friday evening the nearly 30 people
attending the reunion gathered in Deyo Hall for the traditional cheese and
wine get together. Among those in attendance were HHS Executive Director,
Eric Roth and his wife Dawn, HHS President Mary Etta Schneider, RonDeena
Ross, HHS Director of Development and Nancy Gentile, HHS office manager.
Allison Findlay gave a very interesting
PowerPoint presentation of her restoration project of DuBois Cemetery in
Mason, Michigan. Following her presentation she answered questions about the
project.
DBFA President, Terry DuBois, presented
Allison with a certificate proclaiming her Gardien du Passé (guardian of the
past) of DuBois Cemetery. He also presented her with a lifetime membership
in the DBFA. DBFA VP of public relations, Caroline DuBois, also presented
Allison with a colonial bonnet from her personal collection.
Saturday morning began with a continental
breakfast in Deyo Hall, provided by Caroline DuBois. We then gathered in the
French Church for the church service with Reverend Nigel Massey. Following
the service there was a special coming home ceremony for those buried in DuBois
Cemetery and a memorial service for DBFA members who have pasted away.
Next was a tour of the Fort with it's new
roof and freshly painted interior and a tour of the Jean Hasbrouck House. We
then gathered in Deyo Hall for the catered Lunch and the reunion picture.
The day concluded with the DBFA business
meeting and election of officers.
